As I type this I am suffering. Spring allergies are really killing the vibe and I always forget how exhausting they are. I’ve recently learned that suicide rates go up in spring because of allergies. Wild and sad but wow I get it. Some of us get literal spring fever. I’m looking into bee pollen and an air purifier.

Back to the arts, since the last time I posted I’ve crocheted a decent amount. When you’re trying to make money from art you really do have to put the hours into it and throw spaghetti at the wall. This time around I tried making a few cat toys to sell at the smoke shop. These were easy to make because I used theee most bulkiest of yarns. I used coffee filters to make catnip packets and stuffed them into the nugs along with a bit of polyfill. So far they’ve caught a few people’s attention and I actually sold like …2. That there is success. In addition to that, one of my favorite wrestlers to work with (Zelina) ordered 10 of them so I definitely had my hands full for a bit.

The most frustrating thing this week was getting this damn website up. I went through square space, winx, shopify and ultimately ended up on wordpress. Did I make the right decision? Idk, but I’m happy for now. I remember it all being way easier when I was just a young lad on freewebs!!!

Between making those and trying to finish my website I used any extra time I had to keep chiseling away at my crochet wrestlers. Next up on my list was Hook. I’m not gonna lie, after making two wrestlers with very detailed gear and jackets, this was a godsend. I thought the hair was gonna be hard to perfect but I tried my best and it looks decent! I once again used my new favorite technique of drawing the gear designs first on my ipad, printing them onto sticker paper to use as a stencil and then using that to cut perfect felt shapes. It sounds like a lot of work but its less frustrating than cutting a billion shapes until you get the right one.

Shower thoughts

I was feeling really down the last few weeks but the Chris Bey interview with Van Vliet really helped me out. Sometimes we do forget that it’s great to be alive and capable. We forget that we ARE healing if we keep taking steps.

Healing IS hard. The internet and more specifically tik-tok makes it seem like you’re not doing it right if you’re not dialed in. You should be working out, eating clean, being a good person, blah blah blah positivity, matcha, pilates etc

That’s a scam. That’s marketing.

When you’re healing a wound, it’s a gnarly experience. Blood and pus and bandages, possibilities of infection, pain, and that’s what emotional healing can be like too. Some days we’re up and some days we’re picking at a scab. Don’t let the internet lie to you.
